The map: people have created and used maps as the essential tools to help them define, explain and navigate their way through the world. The map and the process of mapping the world represents a significant forward step in the advancement of knowledge people could share from one to another. From latin mappa to cover allows for explanation of spatial relationships. Scale: direction: symbols the map"s framework characteristics which make maps easier to interpret to. Limits of mapping make process leads to understanding of region important aspects featured. Power is a measure of work: operate effectively. Maps are engines that convert social energy to social work, machine that gets work done links things in space, brings proposition of territory into being. Map metaphor: maps have become essential to our sense of the world. (wipe it off the map, put it on the map, map our futures) Orientation doesn"t have to put n at the top.
