Document Summary

First of all, the setting of the two pieces is similar. This is clear as we have all his having some aspects of the main characters being in the open, and in a contemplative mood. For instance,in (cid:862)the great gatsby(cid:863), this is symbolic of how people move up a river but are derailed by their past. Secondly, the two are similar in that they advocate for some aspect of solitude as a way of getting a solution to issues and ideas. In daffodils, we find that the persona wonders, (cid:862)lonely as a cloud(cid:863) (line 1). In line 22, the poet talks of the (cid:862)bliss of solitude(cid:863), which creates an impression that solitude comes with some advantage. Gatsby, this is also clear as gatsby goes out to think,on his own, a reason as to why he assumes the stretching of the hands. Gatsby is a loner who enjoys his company.
