Comparative politics traditionally is a comparative study of polity, politics, and policies within states. It currently is a globalization, regionalization, and domestic political developments. Relations traditionally are a study of political and economic inter-actions among states (e. g. diplomacy, trade, war). Currently it is a study of political, economic, social, and cultural relations across state boundaries, involving both states and non-state actors. Can no longer understand what goes on between the states unless you understand what goes on in the state. An example of blurring boundaries between ir and cp was the united nations recognition of palestine as non member observer state. The palestinian authority engaged in extensive lobbying in order to reach this status.
