Death rate for eating disorders is highest for any psychological disorder, including depression. 20% of people w/anorexia nervosa die as a result of the disorder; slightly more than 5% w/in 10 years. As many as half those deaths are suicides. 90% of severe cases are young females, usually from upper- middle-class or upper- class socioeconomic groups, who live in a socially competitive environment. Criteria for bulimia: recurrent episodes of binge eating. Most bulimics are w/in 10% of their normal weight.
