Stale air is already used but not able to be forced air: normal tidal volume, amount of air under respiration is being moved in and out = 500ml. 150 ml of 500 ml is stale/deoxygenated (rich in. 300 ml of fresh air enter lungs diluted down . Increase resistance decreases diameter reduce amount of air flowing into lungs. Decrease resistance increases diameter increase amount of air flowing into lungs: bronchi bronchioles. General trend: loose ct loose cartilage pick up smooth muscle. Medium sized bronchioles (msb): important for regulating diameter and constantly being constricted or dilated to increase/decrease air flow into lungs, most smooth muscle.
