Document Summary

Much of hci, information design came from studies and design experience with traditional computer displays. We must design increasingly complex interactive displays that can be perceived and understood by users. Application goals are more likely to be cognitive, social, and experiential. Intuitions about thoughts, goals and plans ( folk psychology ) are good. Intuitions about how people see, hear, and remember are very inaccurate. Lack of awareness of the limits of intuition is the metacognitive gap . It contains lenses that focus an image on the eyeball. Both senses fill in a gappy picture which we believe is complete. Rock) aka visual intelligence : transduction stage (light to pixels-retinal color) Minimal interactions: primary processing (pixels to edges-retinal orientation) Unique color is easy to spot when few other items around. Unique orientation is easy to spot when few items around. Also easy to spot when many other items around. Note: unique items are not always easy to notice.
