An anthropological introduction to youtube by michael wesch (2008) Youtube created a new platform for uploading videos when it was difficult to upload online before. There emerged a new community spanning across the world online. The web links people in a way never done before. User generated distribution moves content from place to place. Lots were happening with actual viewers in terms of participations whereas before, the media hardly got feedback. Strongest age groups making youtube videos were young adults and youths. Almost 10,000 (out of 200,000) videos were addressed to the youtube community: hi youtube . In real life, there"s a loss of community (i. e. less free time to hang out, stores are massive corporations unlike friendly corner stores, etc. ) and the only connections people had were the tv and roads. People have become extremely individual but still desired community. Youtube comes into the midst of this and lets people be individuals but also gives them a community.
