Document Summary
Intrinsic motivation and self-determination theory: we all want to feel positive feeling speak experiences = self-reinforcing experiences. They are intrinsically motivating= they are the goal themselves: providing rewards and incentives for intrinsically enjoyable behavior = undermine those behavior. Decreases human performance in that task: skinner\s behaviorism: people perform best when rewarded for what they do, experiment: 1) were told they would be paid: told nothing. 3) depends on what aspect of behavior is being rewarded= effort vs. ability. In boring tasks having a reward may increase motivation. Self-determination theory: we naturally tend to encounter new challenges that promote self-fulfillment: person spontaneously engages in that task that makes them happy, such activity = self-determined, therefore, intrinsic motivation = self-determined, controlled behavior = not self-determined. They could be intentional but they feel as if they are things that the person does not truly want to do: amotivated behavior = unintentional, disorganized since the person cannot regulate his/her actions.
