Document Summary

Short biography of pavlov: 20 years studying digestive system, 30 years studying learning, 1904 nobel prize. He noticed that dogs would drool in anticipation of food. Pavlov believed that behaviour was based on reflexes. Believed that all of the answers would be found in physiology, and that psychology had little to offer, but his own research proved that wrong. Individuals come to associate two stimuli. ex: lightning and thunder, tone and food. A neutral stimulus is paired with a stimulus that produces the reflex. Neutral stimulus eventually comes to control the reflex. Effective stimulus that undconditionally automatically and naturally triggers a response. Unconditioned response (ucr, ur) unlearned, naturally occuring automatic response to the unconditioned stimulus. Conditioned stimulus (cs) previously neutral stimulus that, after association with an unconditioned stimulus, comes to trigger a conditioned response. Conditioned response (cr) learned response to a previously neutral conditioned stimulus. Acquisition an increase in the intensity of the behavior if the cs is presented alone.
