Lincoln gave south 100 days to end war and not free. Border states did not get their slaves freed. Lincoln used this as a military tactic: wilmot proviso slavery in the land that is gained from the mexican american war. Has to do with mexican american war. It said there won"t be: boarder states still had slaves. States bordering mason dixon line who sided with union, but: popular sovereignty basically resulted from the kansas-nebraska act. Belief that states had right to decide about slavery: 13 th amendment. Freed all slaves: 14 th amendment. Granted citizenship of blacks: 15 th amendment.
