Document Summary

2 main types of cell: eukaryotic our type (& also animal) About 10 - 100 m in length: prokaryotic bacteria and archea domain. About 1 5 m in length. Cell membrane phospholipids boundary: cytoplasm, cytosol, ribosomes. Important for communication by binding to adjacent cells. Control entry and exit which selectively permeable. Consist of bilayer of phospholipids with proteins. Is a passage for oxygen, nutrients and waste. Cell surface must be bigger than volume (stuff inside) so that would have enough room for molecules to move in and out of the cell. Cytosol jelly like substance inside plasma membrane. Chromosome(s) highly packaged dna, contains genes. Only have cell membrane and cell wall. Dna is located in nucleoid (not membrane bound) dna float freely. Have compartalized known as organelles, each has specific function and based on enzymes, ph, etc. Each organelle has their own membrane which control entry and exit. Different local environment so many processes can go at once.
