Only works when there is high contrast: bones vs. soft tissue, guns vs. clothes. Not good for brain scans because various structures of brain differ only slightly from on another in absorption of x-rays: essentially, cannot see the brain. Injection of a contrast medium (e. g. a radio opaque dye: absorbs x-rays less than or more than surrounding tissues. Enhanced structure to background different in x-ray absorption: still cannot see the brain, e. g. angiography. Uses infusion of radio opaque dye into a cerebral artery to visualize the cerebral circulatory system during x-ray.
