Molecules composed of atoms - appendix b, appendix c: cellular. Cells are basic unit of life chapter 1-3: tissue chapter 4 and later, organ chapter 6 and later, body system mostly covered in. Chapter 1 starts with cells - (the appendices (chemical level of organization) will be introduced where appropriate) Perform chemical reactions that provide energy for the cell. Food + o2 co2 + h2o + energy (e) Eliminate carbon dioxide and other wastes to surrounding environment. Synthesize needed cellular components (more on next page) Basic cell functions: control exchange of materials between cell and its surrounding environment. Sensing and responding to changes in surrounding environment. Some cells move around the body delivering messages and/or performing functions: reproduction.
