His grandson then succeeds his grandfather: [age 30] buddha doesn"t know old age, sickness, death: all of this makes him confused and doesn"t understand how people just accept these things and believes someone should do something about it. He wants to calm his mind to solve the issues: (right) breaks his fast with rice and milk eating enough to calm hunger pain. Ate 1 meal a day for the rest of his life and bathes in the river. In this picture he is being tempted by emons send by maro (cupid) because he is the god of desire and tries to tempt buddha.
