79 views1 pages

Document Summary

Deep ecology involves self-realization through identification with nature . Ecocentrism takes the view that ecosystems should have moral standing. An ecosystem can be considered to operate like a living organism. Asserts that the problem is the close-mindedness of adults. Educating youth skirts this problem rather then directly addressing it. An ethic limits freedoms and differentiates between social and anti-social conduct. Ethics evolve to create symbioses and systems of cooperation. Ethics guide our decisions in new and complex situations. Our relationship with the land is primarily economic and we do not consider its rights. A land ethic makes humans part of a harmonic community rather than conquerors. Assigning economic value to land or species helps protect them. Instead we should look to their value in maintaining the ecosystem. Government works with conservation, should be private landowners" responsibility. Humans have altered ecosystems, simplifying food chains and reducing resilience. We should find the intrinsic value in nature and preserve its integrity and beauty.
