Standard model main paradigm for particle physics. Take particles and shoot them down a tube. Protons collide by going both ways across the circle. First scene of angels and demons antimatter created @ cern. Challenges to lhc 1) particles invisibles: 2) particles decay really fast, you have to take what you have (all the normal boring particles) and infer what they came from. Problem was that magnets did not connect properly at the incident. : worked for a couple days, but then broke, didn"t replace them all, only some of the magnets that had bad wells. Table only fixed the red ones, not the blue ones. The plan now -> to run @ half the speed. Has to be there because of higgs mechanism laws of nature have symmetries. Higgs mechanism - just because laws of nature have symmetries, doesn"t men that the solutions to laws of nature have symmetries.
