Document Summary

Low quality = very difficult to get enough nutrients out of it. Low assimilation efficiency = only get a limited amount of the energy that was in the food in the first place. Special enzymes = needed to break down energy rich molecules in food. Has = every gram of muscle you eat, you get 80% of that energy. Gut cavity can take in more food particles than by endocytosis. Have highly folded internal surfaces to absorb more nutrient. 2 way flow one going in and one going out. Tube-like gut: single opening at mouth and single opening at anus, so theres a one way flow. With a one way gut, you can have different organs doing different things, such as storage (stomach), break down, water absorption. Non selective = eat the whole soil and let your gut digest what it can. Selective = instead of eating everything all at once, you pick out what you want to eat.
