We are social creatures; our capacity to survive and become dominate relies on our ability to work together. Developed empathy, ways of interacting that allow us to cooperate. We also have the capacity to take advantage, neglect, dehumanize others. Two systems: rules, enforcement and sanctions. Need to understand: how people think, feel, and behave, how people relate to each other. Rules don"t have primary value on fairness. Common to many concrete topics: health system, human sexuality, family relationships, requiring different perspectives. Sub-disciplines within psychology (neuro psych, social, clinical, etc. ) Prescriptive describes what people should do. Ideographic operates on a case by case basis. Based on the appearance of certainty (we ultimately have to come to a certain decision the correct, binding judgment) Reactive deal with issues brought by others (people have to react to cases as they are brought to them: making laws can also be proactive, but generally reactive. Operational dealing with real world situations.
