Document Summary
Constructivism and cuturalism are both concerned with the impact of norms on international security. Norms are intersubjective beliefs about the social and natural world that define actors, their situations, and the possibilities of actions. Norms are also intersubjective in the fact that they are beliefs rooted in and reproduced through social practice. In addition norms regulate action by defining what is appropriate (given social rules) and what is effective (given the laws of science) In other words, who you are identifies you and reflects your actions and decisions. Rationalist say nothing abut who the actors are or what their or where their interests were constituted from. Farell : wants to demonstrated that constructivism in security studies does complete epistemology in weighing outcomes. Aim: to provide a portrait that is recognizable to most constructivists. Realists: sates od what they have the power to do , where as. Constructivists: sates do what they think is appropriate.
