Concepts are ideas or mental representations of things: building blocks theories and represent points around which social research is conducted, may be used for comparative or descriptive purposes. To measure concept you have to have some sort of indicator that stand for or represent the concept. Indicator refers to a measure in the ordinary sense. * much of quantitative research there is a tendency to rely on a single indicator for each concept. Professionalism: scoring high on one dimension of the concept and not on the other. Has three different definitions: stability over time. Test using test-retest method: internal reliability. Use split half method to test internal reliability: inter-observer consistency. When more than one researcher is taking part their judgments may differ.
