Brought a challenge to the church because it says something other than the hand of god has an impact on how we are created and guided; goes against many religions. Colonialism: try to exert power and control over other countries resources; which links to nature and nurture being used as a way to classify and organize different groups of people. Developed these ideas about the natural world. Applied to nature nurture in humans lives.
