BIOL273 Lecture : CHAPTER 16 CHAPTER 16
Document Summary
Ex. amino acids, glucose, lipids, and nitrogenous wastes and sodium ions, calcium ions, potassium ions, chlorine ions, protons, and hoc3. Plasma and interstitial fluid same composition: except plasma proteins in plasma and not interstitial fluid. Albumins most prevalent protein in plasma 60% Albumins and 9 other proteins make up the plasma. Make up more than 90% of plasma proteins. Liver makes most plasma proteins secretes them into blood. Immunoglobulins (antibodies) synthesized and secreted by specialized blood cells rather than the liver. Plasma proteins makes the osmotic pressure of the blood higher than the interstitial fluid: pulls water from interstitial fluid into capillaries. Plasma proteins functions: blood clotting, defence against foreign invaders, carriers for steroid hormones, cholesterol, drugs, and certain ions (ex. ion fe2+, some act as hormones or ec enzymes. All blood cells come from a single precursor cell type pluripotent hematopoietic stem cell: found in bone marrow soft tissue that fills hollow center of bones.
