Develop knowledge about cultures of interest: observation, read ethnographies (texts about cultures put together by anthropologists, collaborate (esp with people from other cultures) / learn first hand. Psychologists objective: worried about getting too involved. Anthropologists get highly involved: perfect balance interviews. Class activity: interview someone from a different cultural group. Talking to another person of your own culture can also help you understand more about your own culture (helps reduce biased perceptions) Cosi: 4 questions: causation, operationalization, sampling, interpretation. Causation individual (west) vs. collectivist (east) Mediating factor: what you think, your own perspectives. Social cognitive approach (can prime people to think certain ways, even if not from a collectivistic or individualistic culture) Ex: ask people to write about a time they were really embarrassed and then give it to others to read and respond. September 26,2013: reactions, responses, what causes embarrassment culturally dependent or not, behavioural signatures nature vs nurture.
