The token system: the earliest precursor of writing. Didn"t need to be educated to understand. No, you weren"t there so there"s no way you can interpret the symbols exactly the way they were originated. Symbols are arbitrary, different cultures have different meaning. First code that was used, system to transmit information. So many thing to keep track of. To keep track of commodities or trade. Could own 5 goats but they didn"t need to be near you, can trade more easily. Gave way to universal currency in a sense: you can go to a different city not having to carry all your belongings, having money being able to exchange it elsewhere.
