Looking at a specific system in the body and where that system is within the body. Looking at one area at a time however you are looking at every aspect in that one area. Makes it harder to look at the whole picture at once. Anatomical position: standing erect, facing forwards, arms to the side with palms facing forward. Lateral: away from the center line of body (or to the outside) Medial: towards the center line of body (or middle) Dorsal: back of the body like a dorsal fin. Coronal: divides the body into anterior and posterior. Antecubital: the space in front of the elbow. Digital: the fingers (and less commonly, the toes). Genital: the external reproductive organs. Occipital: the back of the head. Olecranal: the back of the elbow. Palmar: the palm of the hand. Patellar: the front of the knee. Perineal: the region between the anus and the external genitalia. Plantar: the sole of the foot.
