Narrative histories present a detailed narrative of rome"s history from the earliest time. The general outline of these narratives is as follows: Rome was founded in the mid-eighth century bc; several authors specify the year 753. Tarquin the proud was the last king of rome as his ruthless reign made roman overthrow the monarchy. Historian livy narrates his life and accounts of early roman history. A revolt against the tarquins broke out, led by brutus, a friend of lucretia"s husband. A republican system was set up, presided over by two consuls. Brutus became one of the first two consuls (livy 1. 60: tarquin attempted to regain his position through treachery and force of arms. He obtained support from various foreign powers, including lars porsenna of clusium (etruscan), and the latins. Lars retreated when he heard plans for his assassination. He was unsuccessful, and died in exile. Problems with the sources for early roman history.
