Over time favourable traits accumulate in the population. Can individuals evolve: no, you cant change their genetic material. Their genotype: but populations can change overtime. How many of different alleles are around: thus individuals don"t evolve, populations evolve. Evolution only can respond to the conditions at the present time. Natural selection can amplify or diminish only heritable traits.
