Document Summary
Manufactured landscapes landscapes that we alter to document his essay on china. Yoo-yang shoe factory- all dyes went into the waters, workers lived next to the water. Watermark is about human"s relationship with water, how it impacts us, how we impact water. It"s not telling you how to do things, but it creates a swirl of ambience around water. It is a non-didactic approach to film-making, contextual approach to reality that doesn"t try to be reductive, that has more of an emotional power rather than just a lecture based event. Creates a space to think about certain questions to shift consciousness about an issue. Film is about an argument, it shows problems that a photographer is trying to portray, doesn"t come to a conclusion, raises questions about a representation, allows the viewer to make up his/her mind. Ambiguity is the source of power of edward"s photographs. His photographs are large, look like an abstract painting.
