Were larger extinctions on the planet previous, like around 250 mya 50% of species extinct. Earth is not vast and eternal; especially not from an astronomer"s perspective: relative to the rest of the universe earth is tiny and brief in its existence. Rocks smash earth, rocks kill earth: maybe we need a backup planet.
