The increased scale of human organization (factories)that result in specialization and coordination in the manufacturing process. Coal mining was the driver of the steam engine. Applied to many industries, and to transportation. Arkwrights cotton spinning factories, horse- and water powered at first. A battery of machines operated from a single power source.
