Document Summary
Psychosocial factors that affect why some people get sick; what causes people to be vulnerable to diseases/illness. Models of illness: biomedical: if you are sick there is something physiologically wrong with you that can be fixed. Example: psychological factors that affect why people get sick. Receiving visits from students for a 2 month period. Change in predictability (the older person knew when to expect the student) Random group: student/ researcher picked the time for when the student comes. Older people still get just as much contact; they just don t know when the student is coming. No treatment group: continuing with life as normal without any contact with university student. Control was best, followed by no treatment, then random group in regards to health. The random and no treatment group increased the amount of medication by 2 and a half times whereas the control group only increased by 1.
