Document Summary

9 clinicians completed an assessment questionnaire for 200 remanded men: agreement on treatability, dangerousness and recommendations was moderate, no consensus for type of treatment. Questionnaires were completed immediately after 60 interdisciplinary case conferences involving extensive group discussion. Use predictors statistically related to violent recidivism. Clinicians expected dangerousness to be related to: a homicide offense, high institutional assault frequency, an involuntary admission, a low iq. Actual factors related to dangerousness: an economic or sexual offense, remand (not involuntary) admission status, young age, number of times in corrections, higher iq. What are we going to do to give us the best data. Dynamic predictors: vary over time, focus of treatment, some things change. Synthesis: actuarial methods determine risk category, clinical judgments modify assessment based on changes in dynamic predictors. All 467 forensic psychiatric patients in ontario during june 1990. Patient problem survey: management problems, life skills deficit, social withdrawal, aggression, family problems, health problems, depression.
