The seven years war officially began in 1756 in europe although contestants had been engaged in open conflict in north america since 1754. The war started between the british and french over the allegiance of the aboriginals people in the ohio country and for sovereignty of the region. The french had built tablets and military posts in the region establishing claim and in 1753 the. British sent george washington to the fort with a letter requesting the french to leave, they refused. The french and english repeatedly send regiments back to the region to try and secure the area and various battles ensued. Initially the french army"s style of ambush and guerilla warfare was successful with several battles going in their favour. In 1757 the french concentrated on new york as the major battlefield. Montcalm won several more victories putting the french in control of the lake route in canada.
