Chapter two - karl marx and the theory of class. Marx is responsible for introducing the concept of class to sociology. The concept of class constitutes the study of social inequality. Marx"s view was that the capitalist stage of social development would eventually be replaced by socialism or communism. Capitalism: an economic and political system in which a country"s trade and industry are controlled by private owners for profit, rather than by the state. Socialism: (in marxist theory) a transitional social state between the replacement of capitalism and the realization of communism. Communism: a political theory derived from karl marx, advocating class war and leading to a society in which all property is publicly owned and each person works and is paid according to their abilities and needs. Marx hoped social organization would be transformed to suit the needs of all people.
