Illusory correlation occurs when people estimate that they have encountered more confirmations of an association between social traits than they have seen. In-group a group that one belongs to and identifies with. Out-group a group that one does not belong to and does not identify with. Ex: friends business fails, you attribute it to his/her lack of business acumen: external attributions ascribes the causes of behavior to situational demands and environmental constraints. Ex: negative trends in a nation"s economic climate: stable attribution permanent, unstable attribution temporary, ex: failing to get the job that you wanted.
