In billy collins" the lanyard, he illustrates how one person can never repay a mother"s love though items but still it is perfectly fine. At the beginning of the story billy was ricocheting slowly off the blue walls which shows how anxious billy is. He has nothing to do and strangely found himself in the l section of the dictionary. He goes on to talk about how she gave me life and milk from her breast and all he gave her mother was a lanyard. Something like a lanyard seems small to give someone who took care of him for most of his life. She brought him into the world and all he gave her was a simple lanyard. He explains life is a precious thing that can never be repay with things like a gift. However the mother still considers that him being alive is the most valuable gift that anyone could give.
