Chapter 8 - cognitive development: piaget and vygotsky cognition: the mental activity through which human beings acquire and process knowledge. Piaget"s theory of cognitive development: piaget made two important observations from the iq tests. First, he noticed children of the same age tended to get the same answers wrong. Second, he observed that the errors of children of a particular age differed in systematic ways from those of older or younger children: he used interviews and observations to study children"s thinking. Piaget"s theory: over development, the child acquires qualitatively new ways of thinking and understanding the world. Piaget"s main tenet: the child actively seeks knowledge constructivist view: the idea that children actively create their understanding of the world as they encounter new info and have new experiences.
