This study is based on in- depth interviews with four older widows in charlotte, nc, who still live in the homes where they lived with their deceased husbands. Utilizing a lifecourse perspective, this paper explores the themes in their attachment to their homes and possessions. The current cohorts of older women in the united states were raised with clear gender roles and expectations, defining a woman"s primary focus as her home and family.
