If you had less money / were poor, people married to survive. Back in the day people had to make and produce everything themselves, food / clothing, etc. Now there are grocery store and clothing stores. Love was not expected in marriage until the 1800s. Spouse as a primary relationship (expected loyalty) Married people don"t gossip as much as single. More attention to the emotional connection to your spouse. Federal laws provide benefits to married people. If the contract can end and how. But, those laws change as our beliefs change. Have to get married in the church.
