Document Summary

This fertility factor doesn"t have to be presence of a plasmid but can integrate into a bacterial chromosome. It drags along of the host bacteria to the recipient. The donor will be in the same state, but the recipient will only have part of the fertility factor, and one part of the chromosomal dna from the donor. The recipient will not be fertile of itself but will recombine the dna from the donor with its own dna and acquire something new in its bacterial chromosome. It starts from a specific position within the f factor. Principle of the experiment is to bring the two together. We are going to let them mate for a specific amount of time. If we give them little time, nothing gets transferred. If you mate for longer, the dna is longer. The recipients that received the dna are selected for are called exconjugants.
