Civilizations of the near east during the early bronze age, the near east had already progressed to a civilization (mesopotamia (land between two rivers) was the first civilization) Mesopotamia and other societies centered around greater cities that produced politics. City-states grew into kingdoms which could be taken over by rival kingdoms. Early cultures had great influence on development of greeks because the greeks and the near eastern cultures were heavily entwined. Eventually the greek language and the indo-european aegean languages formed together. When greeks entered the island the societies were scattered. Centers would soon become crete where palaces first were, signalling state-level societies. 3 cities found, that until found were only talked about myth (trojan war age of heroes ) Heinrich schliemann -> excavation of bronze age level, showed huge palaces. Showed there was a heroic period (late bronze age) of wealth and splendor.
