Document Summary

2012-10-04: people often get confused and think that ppd is like schizophrenia, but this is not true. Ppd has nothing to do with psychotic episodes. A delusion for example is a belief that is not grounded in reality. Disorganized symptoms refer to thought disorders (derailing), bizarre behaviour. Catatonic symptoms: refers to immobility of the limbs. It is likely that someone who has pdd later develops schizophrenia in later life. Costs and impairments: disruptive violent behaviour in the workplace, unnecessary litigation (more likely to want to sue people, rlationship problems (pathological jealousy, violence and stalking, higher levels of psychiatric comorbidity. Dimensional perspectives: negatively related to agreeableness, and positively related to neuroticism, family members of someone who is diagnosed with schizophrenia are more likely to be diagnosed with cluster a personality disorders. Theories of ppd: cognitive processing models: may have attentional biases; over-focusing on possible signs of threat. May also have interpretive biases: misinterpreting innocuous comments or behaviour as malevolent.
