Crime prevention through social development: bottom up to top down, addressing underlying factors/causes. Crime prevention through social development (cpsd: usually have 3 main features; proactive, long-term, guided by social & economic factors, proactive: prevent crime before it happens. (aimed at those at risk) Long term: from 6 months to a few years. Targeted long term programs to reduce risk: guided by social & economic factors: reduce social and economic problems which can increase the risk of criminal behaviour. Cpsd programmes: targeted: programs are addressing those at risk (not all access these programs) as use research to develop these programs and address those issues co-ordinated: several problems at the same time, so operate collectively. Need agencies to work together to have the greatest impact accessible: need to be easy to find, use and meet the needs of the users rather than the program providers.
