BIOL 2060 Lecture Notes - Insular Biogeography, Habitat Fragmentation, Species Richness
Document Summary
Conservation biology is the scientific study of processes that threaten biodiversity, promote its maintenance, & enable its restoration. Corridors are very effective in allowing species to move back & forth. Species richness increased; helped local species increase. Temperature vs rainfall is of primary importance, other factors are also secondarily important. Precipitation vs. temperature graph can be used to create a whittaker"s biome diagram. Physiological tolerances are the limits on the environmental conditions that an organism can tolerate. Every species has a limited tolerance to dinfferent environmental conditions that determine its geographic range. The sum of these conditions is sometimes referred to as it"s niche. Optimum for reproduction & growth is in the middle of the environmental gradient (temperature).
