Thomas szasz criticized medical model, that disease/ illness can only affect body and not mind therefore no such thing as mental illnesses. Abnormal behaviour involves deviation from social norms. Everyday adaptive behaviour is impaired, usually from drug consumption. Substance use disorder substance interfere with social and occupational functioning: personal distress.
