Document Summary

War ends, factory returns to normal: new jobs opened up for returning soldiers, women sent back to the home, some happy to leave, some angry. Angry wanted/needed the money, and the opportunity: mothers whose kids are older were getting more leisure time, needed cash. Politicians were anti-women"s vote because: women could eventually run for offices, change legislation, reform, aid poor children, great equality, options. Voting locations changed: prior to women"s vote, voting was done in saloons, men"s clubs, now in public places. Women were now appointed to government groups, on juries, and new laws were passed. Prohibition: passed at end of wwi, passed because of the cost, social issues and health issues of alcohol. Sheppard-towner maternity and infancy protection act of 1921: hired health professionals and nurses to go to urban area to check on expecting/ new mothers and their babies, built women"s/ health centers, 3,000 centers.
