The term adolescence was not a popular term until the late 19th/early 20th century. Stanley g. hall was the man who made this term popular suggested that adolescence is a universal stage. He was sort of part of the rise of psychology and had a real interest in populations and people. He also looked at ways to organize and categorize people.
