Magic is logical but mistaken, mistakes contingent associations with causal ones. Doctrine of survivals - hierarchy between cultures but also within: superstitions continue to percolate even though they are progressed through (like country doctors who still use leaches). Animism - everything is animated by spirits. trying to rationalize dreams and death. it results in a concept of animism. Homeopathic magic: immitative. simulate the notion and that will cause rain.
