The muslim brotherhood now controls egypt and now they will not let any other groups have a say. Other groups withdrew from policy-making group out of protest. They are voting in a couple weeks on a new, very islamic constitution. Indonesia (muslim majority) has typically always had a pluralistic democracy. Muslim intellectuals who were very for this democracy. They felt it was more important to get islamic values into the government rather than instituting an islamic government, especially since there was many different groups. Shura (consultation)- when you need to make a big decision, consult the community quran supporting democracy. Egalitarylism- all believers are equal (everyone prays next to each other, wear the same clothing during ritual, ect) democracy is about giving everyone an equal voice. Abdul rauf- imam associated with the 9/11 mosque, he published a book what"s right with. There is almost more sharia in the us than anywhere else.
