CHEM 1320 Study Guide - Activation Energy, Atomic Radius, Ionic Radius
Document Summary
The purpose of our experiment was look at the relative reactivity of metals with hydrogen ion, rank the relativities accordingly, and relate their periodic properties to their position on the periodic table. Water and hcl were used to test the reactivity of the different metals. Through the experiment it was discovered that ca was the most reactive, while. The other metals fell into place in between the two extremes. The results show that cold water can make ca react, whereas it takes warm strong hcl to make cu even begin to react. The relative reactivity is significant in the results. Also, the relationship between the reactivity and the periodic properties belonging to the specific elements is an important result. The results obtained do not differ much, if any, from what was expected. Of course it was not possible to predict exactly which element would react to which solution, but our ranking of relative reactivity is almost perfect.
